good but needs some improvments
|
| Review Date: June 15, 2010 |
| Reviewer: traveller, California |
pros:
it is good, compact/light and sturdy (stiffness like a german BMw...)
cons:
hard plastic safe locks (with some sharp edges), very rough to your palm skins each time you turn to lock or unlock. they should have used RUBBER!
lack of a strap
lack of a foam sleeving

The Perfect Compact Monopod
|
| Review Date: October 3, 2008 |
| Reviewer: Robert W. Rivera, Albuquerque, NM |
| I was very sceptical after reading the reviews but I needed something small I could carry in my backpack. And after using it the entire football game this afternoon I am so impressed I purchased another one for a friend. As with any piece of equipment you have know how to adjust and set it, including locks, latches and, LIMITS, which in this case is three pounds. The bottom leg has a single spring pop out latch and the second and third legs have two each. With twist locks on the upper two legs all locks and latches worked without collapse. Anyone who can operate a camera will by far know how to adjust and secure this Perfect Compact Monopod. Thanks Sunpak. |
Great for crowded areas
|
| Review Date: January 9, 2009 |
| Reviewer: Hellen S, Brooklyn, New York United States |
| I loved this monopod. I used while recording my son's performance in daycare. It is great for small crowded spaces like one there. Imagine small room, 20 kids, 2+ parents (grandparents) for each kid, no place to breathe, not talking about seating. Everybody is on each other head. if you hold camera your video will be dancing up and down because you are pushed in every direction. I was able to record very good video because even thought I was pushed, camera was still, I was able to hold it stable on the monopod. Small in size (unfortunately does not fit in purse) and not very expensive. |
Easy to deal with
|
| Review Date: October 26, 2005 |
| Reviewer: Jack Arnouts, Salt Point, NY USA |
| This is a nice unit at the right price and they shipped it fast. Nice work...The mono pod is easy to carry and can be left attached to the camera all the time. You can bring the camera up quickly and rest the end on your waist or belt to help steady the camera for the fast shot. It is light weight and makes steady shots and panning easy if you are useing a video camera. The tubes are sturdy, telescope very smooth and lock well. Its a handy thing when running around on vacation or shooting events where you are worried about human traffic tripping on a tripod leg. |
Small & Compact - But it has it's problems
|
| Review Date: May 11, 2006 |
| Reviewer: Valerie T., Huntington Beach, CA |
| Small and compact but it has problems with the internal plastic rings breaking which allow the legs to remain secure during use. I took back my first one after a month only to have the same problem occur with the second one. I contacted Sunpak to send me out the parts that broke, it took 3 weeks but at least I receive them. Sunpak customer service was extremely nice, but I've made it a point to keep their number handy as I know I'll have to replace the parts again. |
Same as Quantaray QSX, maybe OK if 60" & weak lower leg suffices!
|
| Review Date: July 4, 2006 |
| Reviewer: Mark W4CHL, Central NC United States |
See reviews here on Amazon.com for Quantaray QSX, seems to be same monopod with different label. Weak point is the lower 3 telescoping legs which have no twist lock like upper two legs, especially last section which will collapse with only a few pounds of pressure from above. Also, if you are over 1.8m (6 feet) tall then the 1.5m (60") total height is too short.
Though ball socket pan/tilt head is nice touch on this low end monopod, better to get separate pan/tilt head and get more useful monopod. For instance the Opteka MP100 is 67" high with each leg having solid snap lock.
Agree with other reviewer of QSX, included belt clip is nice, and when used on belt don't need problematic lower 3 telescoping legs.
Cheers de Mark |
Does not hold a position.
|
| Review Date: July 7, 2007 |
| Reviewer: KenG, Wi, USA |
| I have had trouble with this monopod holding a position once set. I used this with a Canon S3 IS which is light weight. The only stable position seems to be completely collapsed or with just the upper section extended. |

Compod Slim is Better Constructed Than Newer Quik Pod Pro
|
| Review Date: April 16, 2010 |
| Reviewer: DMiyash248, Pearl City, HI USA |
| Except for its rubberized handle and very tough plastic head, the Compod Slim (later renamed the Quikpod Explorer) is made of all metal. The newer Quik Pod Pro model on the other hand is made mostly of plastic than metal. If reach is important, the Compod Slim extends to 38.5" as compared to only 18" for the newer Quik Pod Pro. Furthermore, the included tripod attachment transforms the Compod Slim into a tabletop tripod or mini self-standing monopod. While sitting down at concerts, plays, graduations, etc. I can use the tripod attachement for steady shots. If you were planning to purchase the Quikpod Explorer but do not mind the older name then buy this. It's a bargain. |
Wow!
|
| Review Date: March 30, 2010 |
| Reviewer: Craig Jelinek, Incline Village, NV United States |
| This is a great buy on a great product. This is an "older" model of the QuikPod, for 1/2 the price. Plus, it comes with a tripod add-on. It is light weight, so not appropriate for digital SLR's. It works perfectly with the small digital cameras. |
self indulgence & seeing over crowds
|
| Review Date: December 17, 2009 |
| Reviewer: Barry Morrill, Torrance, Ca. USA |
My daughter is 16 and just loves to take pictures of her friends and herself. WHen I bought her new Canon point & shoot for a trip to DC, I also picked up one of these as a novelty. My daughter was as excited for this as the camera. She used it for shots of her and people but at the White House used the camera's self timer and the pod to get shots over the heads of others!
We haven't found its length too short as the other reviewer mentions. With the Canon S200 the distance allows for a head & shoulder shot of upto 3 people in normal focus (no need for close-up or macro)
All in all a great find and purchase |
Extremely useful! Light and ultra portable.
|
| Review Date: June 4, 2010 |
| Reviewer: Nuknuk, Springfield, VA United States |
I have been shooting videos mostly of my 3 kids at school programs. With so many people around, it is hard to get to the front to take a nice clear angle shot of my kids. My wife and I mostly ends up with jittery shots and with the back of the heads of people in our frame. Now I can extend it on top of anybody's head who is in front of me and I get clear shots. I also can stand it on the floor while sitting down for a steadier shots. As for still digital cameras, I can now shot with slower shutter speeds as opposed to holding the cameras with my hands.
It comes with the monopod, a mini tripod, a pouch, a wrist strap and a small carabiner clip. Made in China.
The monopod is very very light which is exactly what I need as I felt awkward carrying a full size tripod although we have 2 in the house. I also have a regular monopod which is also bulky and cumbersome to tote around. This thing is 9" long and extends to 38 1/2" (You can adjust to any length in between). The segments do not have a lock but it is tight enough to hold steady your camera plus a few pounds. The head has the regular screw to mount your camera. You can change the angle 180 degrees and can be tighten with a turn of through a ball pivot. Best for the Flip videos, Creative Vado and digital point-and-shoots. It also has a tiny mirror to orient your composition if your are photographing yourself. No way I would recommend this for DSLR cameras - they are too heavy for this kind of equipment.
I was also surprised to learn that the tripod legs can also be extended. I did not know that until I read the 1-page manual. The monopod and the mini tripod can work together. You can remove the round end tip of the monopod and will reveal a hole for the tripod head screw. Attach it and you have a free standing 4-feet tripod. Just make sure nobody bump it or trip on it as it is not as stable as a regular tripod.
Construction wise, it may not be the greatest. Do not overtighten it, the knob is made of clear plastic which does not look as tough as the black knobs that are normally attached to regular tripods. But for my use, it solved my need. This is such an ingenious gadget; I am happy and loving it!

Such a good buy!!!
|
| Review Date: June 8, 2010 |
| Reviewer: C. Sutton, |
| As cheesy as a telescopic self-portrait pole is, this has been my best vacation purchase to date. Bought it a week before going to Nassau with my husband, and it was an excellent way to take pictures of us with scenery without having to bug passing strangers, plus, we could take as many pictures as we wanted without feeling bad or disappointed that the friendly tourist didn't focus or frame the shot properly. Also, the tripod attachment is great! It screws to the bottom of the pole to form a tall tripod; we used it at the beach by anchoring the tripod in the sand and taking several pictures. SO worth the price, especially if you like taking pictures of yourself like most vain people (me)! The carrying case is great for keeping everything together. When the pole is extended fully, it works great when you hold it, but as a tripod, not so sturdy. We didn't try it anywhere else except the beach, and we were able to anchor it in the sand. I'm guessing that it wouldn't be so sturdy on even ground, depending on how heavy your camera is. SO SO pleased with this purchase! |
This is a great product!!

This is really cool! I purchased one for myself and liked it so much I ordered 5
more for my kids. My son and I recently drove to Mexico and took pictures
of us both driving in the car, at bars with the waiters, you can get everyone
in the picture. I recommend this product to ya all. |
compod Not as Described
|
| Review Date: July 19, 2009 |
| Reviewer: O. Gbolahan, |
| The product description clearly states that this extends to 56" so I was expecting the newer longer/larger model, but got the compod slim which only extends to 38.5". It does allow you to take pics of yourself and it might be more compact than what i was expecting but its not quite what i ordered. I will attempt to contact Amazon tomorrow and find out more and will update this with the outcome. |
