Bought this kit for the Tripod & Ball head... Bonus for monopod!

I bought this kit because it was cheaper than buying the 190XDB Tripod and the 486RC2 Ball head separately. I already had a monopod that I liked, so the monopod included in the kit was an added bonus.
It should be noted that the tripod uses screw-knobs for extending the legs, NOT snap-clips. Some may prefer the clips for speed, but I must say, the screws give this tripod a very stable & solid feel. The construction has a really good feel to it. Once you set up this tripod, it's not going anywhere.
Two unique features about this tripod are the leg-angle release mechanism and the removable center column. You can let the legs stop at several different angles, including 90° from vertical. This means that you can put the legs completely out perpendicular to the ground (good for rocky-outcropping or hill situations). The removable center colum allows you to flip the center post upside down, so that your camera is upside down, in the middle of the three legs. I'm not sure when you would really use this feature, other than taking pictures straight down at the ground or upside down.
The RC2 head is sturdy and allows you to make minute angular/rotational adjustments. Panning is not independent of tilting, but with some practice at using the lock lever, it's pretty simple to use. Quick-release is a definite plus. I have yet to try the ball-head on a monopod, but I think it should add to the monopod's versatility. |
