| I am using this device for my light weight DSLR-like camera, Lumix GH1. This ball head works beautifully in all occasions. In particular, I like the quick (and safe) release mechanism. Easy to mount to and dismount from the tripod. Once it is on, it is quite secure. It works nicely either horizontally or vertically. I recommend this device to all serious photographers working with the new generations of DSLR like camera in Four Thirds format. |
Well-built and easy to use

This is my first ballhead attachment and I'm very impressed. I had no idea this product was available and it was suggested to me in a post regarding tripods here in Amazon that it would help to get photos of buildings or art work straight if I had a ballhead on my tripod that had two bubble levels. Which is why, specifically, I chose this model.
It installed easily on my tripod and my camera installed easily and securely to it. (It also comes with a second attachment shoe with a much larger thread for some other type of camera or equipment). The build seems solid, the movement is smooth, the added weight for my tripod is unnoticeable, the makings are clear (although, for my purposes, I don't need markings) The four knobs are for ball and pan locking, for swivel locking, for ball locking, and for fine tuning. It also comes with brief instructions in various languages and a lot of generic drawings which you won't need unless you have a problem--the whole thing is pretty intuitive.
I've used it twice and, both times, it did help me get more level pictures and I'm very glad I got it. I will never go back to using a tripod without a ballhead (how easily we get spoiled).
The only reason that I deducted a star is that the bubble levels are, under less than perfect lighting conditions, a little difficult to read. They are filled with that usual green liquid you find in bubble levels but, since the glass cylinders are flush against the black ballhead unit, there is no backlighting (or light hitting it from any side other than the front.) This makes locating the bubble a little difficult since there is just a little contrast. This is especially true of the bubble level in the front, the side unit is easier to read. In a well-lit environment and with perfect vision, it's probably not an issue, but I struggled a bit to locate the bubbles. |
